UPDATED-- Do You Dare? Go Design!
Hello, friends!
I have been talking a lot about myself lately (still on the look-out for creative wedding centerpiece ideas, btw) so today I thought I would talk about you.
Namely your chance to design a dress and have it become part of Shabby Apple's Spring line.
That's right, my lovelies! Dare to Design is back!
And this year, there's a twist. We will, of course, be accepting all your fabulous dress designs, but this year we are opening the competition up to skirts and blouses as well. So many design options!
The rules are the same as they have ever been.
You don't need to be a professional designer or seamstress or model or car salesman to enter.
Design a dress or a skirt or a blouse using whatever medium you are most comfortable with-- you can draw it out, sew up a prototype, use a computer program.
Then post your design on your own personal blog and be sure to link back to us in the post. (Posts that are not linked will not be considered. Because I said so.)
You'll also need to let us know where to find you. Please send us an e-mail at daretodesign@shabbyapple.com and let us know where we can find your post. We'll come on over and take a gander!
We'll narrow the field to 15 submissions and post them right here. The people will speak and a winner will be crowned.
The schedule will go down like this:
The contest starts on June 15th-- that's TWO DAYS from now! And you have until August 10th to submit your brilliant designs.
We'll have the Final 15 up on the blog by August 17th and you'll have until September 10th to vote on them. (September 10th, my wedding day! Because it always comes back to me.)
And we'll announce the big winner on September 14th. I mean, I won't, because I'll be sunning in the Turks and Caicos. But someone will. I promise.
And now, off with you!
Design away!

Can't wait!
I used card games and other group games for my table "centerpieces" but then again, I had a pretty casual wedding. ;)
We were going to do lanterns with candles in them for centerpieces, but decided to use those instead of bouquets and didn't want the whole wedding to be lantern-tastic, so we used hurricane lamps with peacock feathers coming out of them. It was really pretty, simple, tall so everyone could sit and talk, and relatively cheap (about $100 to do 10 tables, side tables, and the altar area). There are tons of variations on those themes, too!
How many designs can we submit?
What do those of us who do not have our own blogs do if we'd like to submit a design? Are we disqualified immediately due to lack of blog to mention you on? :-(
We used various types of stemware clustered together with different candies in each. For example we had a champagne flute, a martini glass, and brandy snifter... with specialty M&Ms, after dinner mints, and jordan almonds (respectively). That way people had some nibbles at the table. There were twinkle lights and sparkly confetti too.
I got some of my mom's old chinaware and had the florist do a small bouquet in each teacup. Then, I got 12x12" scrapbook paper in appealing colors and used that under the teacups. Each table looked a little different, and scrapbook paper comes in just about any style you want. Then, you just throw it away so easily. Mom's china pattern was also the inspiration for my bouquet and other details.
Something tells me you're not having a cowboy wedding, but if you DID, I made centerpieces by scouring thrift stores for little kids' cowboy boots, stuffed them with native wildflowers and tossed a ring of barbed wire over each boot, resting on the toe. Lovely!
Also, a friend of mine used canning jars of all shapes/sizes with candles in them...similar to Lily's barware assortment...but cheaper. =)
Where can we find the rules? I didn't participate last year....
Also, for centerpieces, I once saw (and loved) fishbowls as a centerpiece, complete with a few goldfish (or you could use one beta) in each.
Thanks!
I see your dresses all over blog land-they are so chic and casual. I love them. Cheers
